The second Sunday of advent 🕯️🕯️

Try to remember December 2019. At that time the Corona virus was already present in China. A 33-year-old doctor was the first to raise the alarm in late December because he had made SARS-like symptoms observations at the hospital. Dr. Li returned to work and, unfortunately, contracted the virus from an asymptomatic glaucoma patient in early January. Soon after, he started coughing, became febrile and was hospitalized due to COVID-19. He became a national hero for his attempts to warn the public. “There should be more openness and transparency”, he said.

A lot has happened since then. The Corona has generated a pandemic. A lot of people have passed away. Some get infected and recover but still have complications such as breathing problems. People work from home and that seems to turn out very well. The digital life is increasing, including digital social life. Digital development has indeed saved us from being in a much worse situation. But, we are human beings and we need social relations. Personally, I am in quarantine as much as possible. Very boring but necessary. I am happy about the Corona routines at my training center. I feel rather safe and I can continue with sports.

Furthermore, I have my writing that I love. This is part of my life, and will so be. Since I have scientific medical education, I share some of my analysis to you. What is interesting is the EU:s acting. They have been rather quiet. Is this due to law? Anyway, Great Britan seem to get the vaccine faster since they only have to argue with themselves. The EU, on the other hand, has to make an agreement with all 27 countries.

The second Sunday of Advent is today and I will light candles. It is peaceful with candles. I do not know why, but I thought of Mr Bean yesterday, and I saw an interview with him from the Graham Norton Show that I would like to share today.

Stay safe 🐾

But the other way around

Sathurday means candy treat, and in my case, that is chocolate. It was possible to go for exercise today and thereby, I can have chocolate without bad conscience. Or should I? Wrote some yesterday about biology affecting economy. When Fredrik Reinfeldt was Prime minister of Sweden, he often spoke in terms of Sweden as a limited company. Perhaps he was right. We do not know much about Swedish Corona economy, but it seems like we are doing well since there are no limits regarding eg anti body testing.

Tomorrow is Sunday, and I have tought training to look forward to. Today strength, and tomorrow indoor cycling. Wish me luck! Browsed for some music, and since Robyn sang for Nobel peace price in Oslo 2010, I continue with Robyn. Soon December the 10th. Enjoy.

Coronavirus super-spreader

Mini blog. We are in an interesting time phase of the pandemic where biology meets economic and politics. So far soo good in terms of economics, but terrible with regard to the elderly population. It is a challenge to track and isolate the Corona virus. I allow myself to go to the grocery store and also to go for sports. Since the second wave is peaking, I sometimes wear medical face mask on subway. Meanwhile, I have time to think of the formation of aerosols and that my face mask gives me some protection. Also, in respect to people close by. They might think that I carry the virus.

News doesn’t talk much about this, but once in a while the term “Corona super-spreader” is mentioned. Some people who do not show symptoms are capable of transmitting the virus during a pre-symptomatic phase. To understand what might make someone a super emitter is actually being, and has been, studied. Just take a look at a crowd of people standing by a bus stop on a cold day, and you’ll notice everyone’s breath fog looks different in terms of size. Understanding how aerosols form in the body is crucial to figuring out why this virus spreads so readily.

Age is a major risk factor for developing severe symptoms of COVID-19. Do you remember this figure? Please see the text also.

Returning to this Friday. I must admit that I do not feel for doing much, but it is nice and cosy to make your own dinner. Little treats in daily life. I am resting to save energy for this weekend’s training. Music with work out. So good. Sharing this song with Katy Perry that took me so long time to find. `Cry about it later` is an appropriate name in these pandemic times. Bon weekend!

On teaching and mentorship

Many years ago I did PhD studies. I was a doctoral student (doktorand). I remember I felt a little like now – empty. After writing my books. Not so many ideas. A little like I have written everything I have thought of during passed years. I am happy that I have this rather unique education. It is a way of thinking. How to analyse complex patterns and formulate the answer in a few words. Put the conclusion into a bigger context and speculate on the future. However, to be able to do this you need to have something solid to stand on, and in my case that is knowledge. I like languages a lot and that is complex knowledge with grammar, synonyms etc. Perhaps next time I write here, I will in Norwegian. There are quite a lot of Norwegians in Sweden and I still remember how to talk. But it takes a while for me to get into that very specific Norwegian talking mood.

The Corona virus is every day news. The immunsystem is constantly a hot topic and if I get time I will refresh my knowledge on the interplay between T-cells and antibodies. Perhaps we will learn something completely new from studying immunology in practice. It seems like some people are more prone to get infected. Similar to like some people don’t get mosquito bites. Complex.

I miss sweetie and cutie and I will play Tom Jones for them. Lady has taught Molly what puppies need to know, and I must also admit that Molly has taught me some as well. To get out of my comfort zone and have selfies. That is a very nice vice versa mentorship!
