❤️ St. Valentine’s Day ❤️

The feast of Saint Valentine will be celebrated this Friday on the 14th of February. Originally it was a western cultural and religious Christian feast day honouring the Roman priest Saint Valentinus. Today it is more of a commercial celebration of love and affection in many regions of the world. The Feast of Saint Valentine was established by Pope Gelasius I in AD (anno domini) 496 to be celebrated on February 14 in honour of the Christian martyr, Saint Valentine of Rome, who died on that date in AD 269. There are stories of Saint Valentine performing weddings for soldiers who were forbidden to marry, and that Saint Valentine later was executed. Horrible! True or not, I don’t know.

After middle ages people started to send “valentines” to each other such as greeting cards, flowers and other symbolic heart shaped gifts. That was the time when courtly love flourished. When knights performed services for ladies – to love nobly. Unfortunately, it is still not a public holiday in any country. However, I hope you will do something special this Friday since love is needed after all bombings, plane crashes, burnt coalas etc. Change is needed so we can look forward to a spring and summer filled with positive emotions. I have already given my love to sweetie and cutie, and now I share a photo from last summer in Rome. Happy Valentine. Maybe you will write a Valentine poem?
