Vaccine and mechanisms of survival 💉

In December it is a year ago since severe symptoms of COVID-19 were discovered in Wuhan in China 🇨🇳. It is a unique, historical pandemic ( China´s successful control of COVID-19 ). I had a chat with a friend who knows about how people (like you and me) react in catastrophes. People are dying and there are no emotional reactions in society. This may be a mechanism of survival she said. It is too much to cope with, and the brain tells us to deal with this later when we are safe again. Then we can take care of our feelings.

The second wave is here, and we must be careful. It is very serious. We are waiting for a vaccine to be developed. Moreover, we are learning about this virus, and also about ourselves. How will we cope with next virus? I would suggest immediate lockdowns to isolate the virus. This might be impossible, but distancing is crucial. The WHO will play a very important role. To put together new knowledge, and not the least, make various countries cooperate to have an emergency kit set for next outbreak.

Different mechanisms of actions are currently being studied on how to develop a vaccine. I rapidly browsed the internet for a review on this topic. This is a mini review of what has happened. Also various mechanisms of actions are presented on potential vaccine candidates (figure 5).

SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19

Please see the illustrations if it is too much to read. The timeline in figure 1 illustrates the key events of COVID-19 and puts this pandemic in a perspective.

However, it is Friday and weekend. Also Friday the13th for those of you who are superstitious. I cannot see Sweetie and Cutie since we stay in quarantine. No travelling, but by coincidence, I found a cartoon when I once upon a time was travelling. Some cheering up is needed while waiting for a vaccine. Usually I read “Laban”, but that is only when I am in the countryside with Sweetie and Cutie.

Stay safe, and don’t forget to stay tuned!
