Impressions

Tonight I needed to go for yoga (stretch) to embed all impressions from my Berlin journey.  It was a wonderful trip, to summarize. I left Friday night and the flight brought me to Munich where I had to change planes to go to Berlin. It was my first real encounter with Berlin and Germany. The airport was very close to the city where I stayed, in Mitte. I lived nearby the famous Friedrichstrasse that crosses Checkpoint Charlie were east and west meet.

I have captured some photos. These images are like art for me, a way to express emotions, I think. I have learnt to travel alone and that means that I sometimes have to ask for help with photos. So, photos of me are taken by unknown photographers. And vice versa, I help them.

I felt rather captured. Not knowing German. I couldn´t read newspapers, only watch TV, but I think I learnt some words. All people I talked to were very friendly and there was an international atmosphere. The area where I stayed was rather new, but anyway, I got a feeling that there must have been a history before these buildings. History is not easy to understand because the writer can shape history. But, anyway, what is wrong with that if it is a happy ending?

I like to walk to get to know a new city. People, cafés, German kitchen, ambiance etc. And, honestly, I am lousy at reading maps so I often end up at places I never knew about. However, first, I went to Pariser Platz and Brandenburger Tor, close to the German Reichstag. Sharing some photos and I will continue to write some.

Preussen

I try to remember history class to connect to Berlin. And I don´t really know why but I start to think more and more about when I was in Pau. Tonight I found some letters from that time. It feels so close even though it was twenty years ago. I still have a coat that I bought there. I miss a button so I will have to mend it.

I remember how exciting it was to discover a new language, people, geography, history, culture and French kitchen. Today I am older and I am going to Germany. A country that I know very little about, and I think that I see things, and in particular life, from a different angle. I will search for the German pulse. And that will be difficult over a weekend.

I saw weather forecast and it seems like I will be lucky! No rain.

Old town, Stockholm

Tuesday. Grey and cold weather. Chilly. I need lights. A cup of tea and candle lights make me feel good. I am trying to get into Berlin mood. It is a little exciting since I don´t know much about Berlin. Or Germany. I went to Old town in Stockholm this afternoon. If I remember right a lot of Germans were in Stockholm at the medieval ages. A lot of trade. “Hansa trade”.  The Hanseatic League. Will fly with Lufthansa, so maybe that name derives from trading times. Boats at that time, flights today.

I am learning a new world. Photography. Unfortunately, I had to find a new camera. I like pictures a lot and that has become a part of my life. Photos is a way of expressing emotions, I think. Everything is so high tech right now so it is just to accept and learn. However, I definitely agree that technology has developed life a lot even thought I am a old fashioned. So, hopefully, you will enjoy better and sharper photos!
